When I first encountered the Bible, I was deeply drawn in, but also honestly overwhelmed. The Bible is an ancient collection of texts, written over thousands of years, by many different authors, across very different historical and cultural contexts. Because of that, it isn’t always easy to read.

There are repeated events, non-linear timelines, and even passages that seem to contradict one another at first glance. On top of that, many existing Vietnamese translations use old or highly formal language, which can make it difficult, especially for newcomers, to understand the meaning clearly.

That personal experience is what led me to start this project: Kinh Thánh Lược Truyện (The Bible in Simplified Story Form).

The Idea Behind the Project

The idea itself is simple:

  • Use clear, modern, and approachable language, avoiding overly classical or archaic expressions.

  • Reorganize the content chronologically, so the overall story flows more naturally.

  • Remove repeated passages, helping readers focus on the core narrative instead of getting lost in duplication.

The goal is not to “rewrite” the Bible in a creative sense, but to present its main storyline in a way that is easier to follow, especially for those reading it for the first time.

What This Project Is Not

I also want to be very clear about what this project intentionally leaves out.

Parts of the Bible such as laws, poetry, prophetic writings, and letters are deeply important. However, in this simplified story version, I chose not to include them. These sections often reflect social context, religious practices, or personal reflections tied to specific moments in history. They require slower reading and deeper contemplation. Including everything would interrupt the narrative flow and make it harder for readers to grasp the bigger picture.

This project is not meant to replace the original Bible or full translations. Instead, it’s meant to be a gentler starting point.

My hope is that after becoming familiar with the overall story, readers will feel more confident, and more curious, to return to complete translations and explore the Bible in its full depth and richness.

A Small Personal Effort

In the end, this project is just a small personal effort. I’m not a theologian or a scholar, just someone who once struggled to read the Bible and wanted to make that first step a little easier for others.

If this work helps even one person begin their journey with less confusion and less fear, that alone makes it worthwhile for me.
